“How do I get rid of it?”

2019 was a weird year. I was in the process of launching Create33 a Seattle-based incubator that I founded with my good friend Jaren, and I couldn’t stay awake past 1pm.

I had no idea what was wrong with me. My brain was deeply foggy, and the hours I could be effective seemed to last between 7am and 1pm after which I could barely keep my eyes open.

It was not a pleasant time. I had to plan all important meetings in the morning, I knew I was useless in the afternoon.

I decided that I needed to get it figured out, and I started going to every type of doctor. I started with my primary care physician. He thought it might be an adrenal gland issue. Turns out that lots of founders suffer from adrenal fatigue where the body stops producing cortisol properly since founders live under a constant state of stress.

It wasn’t that.

I had MRIs and brain x-rays. I had blood tests. Lots of blood tests. Nothing.

Finally, after a year of tests, I was at my wits end. My new psychiatrist asked me if I would ever go to a naturopath.

“I’ll try anything.”

She recommended one and I setup an appointment. When I got there, she asked that I lay on the table and put my arms above my head. She then touched my head, then my arm, then my head, then my stomach, then my arm, then my head, and so on. I asked what she was doing.

“Muscle testing” she said.

She then gave me about 6 different supplements to take and signed me up for 9 blood tests and a fecal test.

A few days later she gave me a call.

“You tested positive for Lyme disease.”

Turns out that I probably got it 12-15 years ago, and it is now chronic. But it answered the brain fog, muscle and joint pain. She gave me more supplements and tinctures and over the course of the next few months I was finally able to stay awake past 1 pm.

And the incubator was quite the success until 2020 changed the world.
